I have always been passionate about supporting individuals live their lives to the fullest. Life can be overwhelming and it can be difficult to navigate the various challenges that may arise. Much like a rose that has the potential to grow in the midst of adverse environments, like concrete; we too, can grow through the hardships of life. Sometimes we just need a little bit of support along the way. I am excited about walking with you as you take command of your journey. I commend you for having the courage to take the first step and reaching out!

My Approach

I adopt an integrative, multi-disciplinary, person-centered approach with an anti-oppressive, culturally-sensitive and trauma-informed lens. I pull from various therapeutic modalities to tailor treatment plans that address the unique needs and challenges of each individual client.

Some of the modalities I frequently use include:

  • cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT)

  • dialectical-behavioral therapy (DBT)

  • emotion-focused therapy (EFT)

  • solution-focused therapy (SFT)

  • psychodynamic therapy

  • family systems therapy

  • narrative therapy, and

  • acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT)

I also understand the unique needs of BIPOC individuals and support BIPOC clients towards racial healing.

I have had the privilege of working with some amazing organizations, such as:

Black Mental Health Canada (BMHC)

Canadian Black Nurses Alliance (CBNA)

University of Toronto – Student Union

Glendon College, York University – Black Student Union

Ontario Society of Registered Psychotherapists (OSRP)

Ministry of Children, Community & Social Services, Province of Ontario

Ministry of Citizens’ Services, Government of British Columbia

City of Peterborough, Community Race Relations Committee

SPEAKING

I am an advocate for the diverse and unique mental health needs of BIPOC and marginalized communities. My areas of focus include racial trauma and race-based traumatic stress injuries, factors associated with post-traumatic growth and resilience in BIPOC individuals, as well as therapeutically addressing the impact of systemic racism and oppression to foster institutional change and racial equity for BIPOC individuals and communities.

I have developed and facilitated mental health workshops for non-profit and professional organizations, colleges and universities, research groups and corporate businesses focused on racial trauma, mental health resilience and psychological safety. I am the Lead Researcher and a co-facilitator for the Black Mental Health Canada training workshop titled “Understanding Black Clients in Mental Health Care”, funded by the Public Health Agency of Canada. I am co-author on the associated manual for the workshop, "Canadian Mental Health and Well-being Handbook: An Introduction to an Africentric Approach to Black Mental Health and Racial Trauma". *

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

How are sessions conducted ?

All therapy sessions are available virtually.

In-person sessions may be available for individual sessions only, space is limited.

Please indicate your preference when you schedule your new client phone consultation.

Time Commitment

The number of therapy sessions needed is dependent on each individual’s needs and goals. For some, therapy may be a short-term process (6-8 sessions); whereas for others, long-term and/or ongoing therapy may be required. During our initial sessions, we will collaboratively establish some goals that will provide a framework for the work we will do together. We will also discuss the number of sessions that may be needed. We can always shorten the number of sessions if your initial goals and therapeutic needs are met or we can lengthen the number of sessions, if needed. We generally start off working together either on a weekly or biweekly basis. In times of crisis, clients may request to meet twice weekly for therapeutic support.
