About
Me
Shanique Victoria Edwards is an Ontario-based Psychotherapist in private practice, registered with the College of Registered Psychotherapists of Ontario (CRPO). With more than two decades of experience across diverse roles in the healthcare sector, she brings both clinical depth and strategic insight to every aspect of her work.
Shanique is the creator and developer of the C.U.L.T.U.R.E. Framework—an AfriDiasporic, equity-driven mental health practice model that offers a comprehensive roadmap for engaging Black communities across clinical practice, research, and organizational leadership. Grounded in cultural wisdom, systemic analysis, and healing-centered care, the framework bridges evidence-based practice with Africentric traditions to foster collective wellbeing and sustainable change.
She currently serves as Director of Mental Health, Outreach, and Strategy with the Canadian Black Nurses Alliance (CBNA) and as the Black Mental Health Clinician with the Newmarket African Caribbean Canadian Association (NACCA). Shanique also consults for several organizations, including Black Mental Health Canada (BMHC), the Health Research Council for People of African Descent (HRCpad), and METRAC. Previously, she worked as the Knowledge Translation Specialist at the Cundill Centre for Child and Youth Depression at the Centre for Addiction and Mental Health (CAMH).
Shanique holds an undergraduate degree in Neuroscience and Psychology from the University of Toronto and a graduate degree in Clinical Counselling from Tyndale University.
A sought-after thought leader, strategist, and speaker, Shanique has facilitated workshops and trainings on Africentricity, cultural competence, child and youth mental health, racial trauma, stress and resilience, and psychological safety within Black and equity-deserving communities. She is also a certified Mental Health First Aid facilitator, part of the inaugural cohort focused on bringing this training to Black communities across Canada. Shanique is frequently consulted to advise on organizational strategies that advance representation, access, belonging, and equity.
A passionate advocate for the mental wellness of racialized and underrepresented communities, Shanique is dedicated to creating spaces where healing, dignity, and restoration are possible. She walks alongside her clients through life’s most vulnerable seasons—offering compassionate, culturally grounded, and evidence-informed support on their journey toward wholeness and wellness.
